We are currently planning three best-practices initiatives:
Getting to the Heart of Sustainable Driver Safety—Fall 2017
Many myths surround the efficacy of such driver safety-improvement sources as culture, behavior modification, leadership, role modeling and training programs (of all sorts). What approaches and supporting practices have achieved the best long-lasting results at world-class, non-utility driver-safety leaders? This best-practices initiative will help you discover the answer to that and related questions through a confidential e-survey of ten leading companies.
Making R&D Expenditures Worth the Money—Winter 2017-2018
Most utility R&D executives lament the fact that their company spends less than two-tenths of one percent of annual revenue on R&D. Many non-utilities spend up to 7% of annual revenue on R&D. The primary difference is the significant expenditures on product development at those competitive-world companies. From a utility perspective, the key (long unanswered) question is: How much do leading non-utility companies spend on non-product development R&D? The answer to that question can be very helpful to those utility executives in making the case for greater R&D spending. This key question and related ones (e.g., outcome measures) will be the subject of this confidential R&D best-practices initiative.
Making Disaster Recovery and Restoration a Prudent Life-Saving Investment—Spring 2018
Many utilities seem highly risk-aversive when it comes to such areas as investments in nuclear generation, but less so when it comes to other potential forms of physical disasters. How do leading non-utilities incorporate risk-management approaches and practices into preparing for potential disaster recovery and restoration? The answer to that question and related ones is the objective of this confidential e-survey of ten of those leading companies.
